New BBQ in Stem, NC: Stem Pickens Restaurant & Catering Co. Is Coming to Southern Granville County

Out here in Stem, a new local business opening up is a big deal. So we’re happy to share some news from just down the road: Stem Pickens Restaurant & Catering Co. is getting ready to open its doors in Stem, North Carolina.

If you live in southern Granville County, or you drive through Stem on your way between Creedmoor, Oxford, and Butner, this is one to put on your list.

Real Wood-Cooked BBQ in Stem

Stem Pickens is a pit BBQ restaurant. The meat is cooked low and slow over wood, and it’s made from scratch every day. Their pit team has been smoking BBQ for over 20 years.

Here’s what they’re known for:

  • Smoked brisket, cooked for hours over hickory until it’s tender with a dark bark

  • Pulled pork, pulled by hand and piled high

  • Smoked ribs with a dry rub they’ve been working on for two decades

  • Southern sides like mac and cheese, collard greens, cornbread, and coleslaw

They’ll also have lunch favorites like hot dogs and burgers, so there’s something for everyone in the family.

Breakfast in Stem: Cowboy Coffee, Donuts, and Cat Head Biscuits

Stem Pickens isn’t just a lunch and dinner stop. Early in the morning you can grab a cup of cowboy coffee and fresh baked goods, including donuts, cinnamon rolls, and cat head biscuits. If you’ve never had a cat head biscuit, it’s a big, fluffy Southern biscuit about the size of a cat’s head. And don’t forget to add the cheese.
